Playing Six-Pack Poker
One of the most interesting and most challenging home games is the poker variant known as the Six-Pack poker. Unlike the Cincinnati poker home game in which the poker players have virtually no restrictions on the possible hands that will be formed, the Six-Pack poker has restrictions. And like the Tic Tac Toe poker, the restrictions of the Six-Pack poker is based on the arrangement of community cards on the board.
As what can be inferred from the name of this poker game, the Six-Pack poker utilizes six community cards. These six community cards are arranged in a circular manner and the complete board resembles a clock with the odd numbers removed. For the geometrically inclined poker players , the community cards on the board appear as the points of a hexagon.
To play the Six-Pack poker, each poker player is first dealt with two personal or hole cards. When all players have their cards, the first betting round is done. After this first betting round, two community cards are revealed by the dealer. One of these cards is at the topmost part, which can be thought of to take the position of 12 o’clock. The second one is at the bottom part or at the six o’clock position.
After seeing these two community cards, the poker players conduct the second betting round. Then, two more community cards are added to the board. One of these cards is near the first community card, which is at the two o’clock position. The other is at the 8 o’clock position. With four community cards on the board, the poker players proceed to the third betting round.
Then, the last two community cards are placed on the board. These two cards occupy the 4 o’clock and the 10 o’clock positions. When all the six cards are complete, the fourth and last betting round commences. And when two or more players have opted to remain, there is going to be a showdown. The Six-Pack poker has a total of four betting rounds.
The best hand that can be formed by a poker player should be composed of his two personal cards and three of the community cards. But a poker player cannot just choose any three community cards. The three community cards should be adjacent to each other, or in consecutive order. This unique restriction makes this particular poker game more challenging.
For poker players who wanted more room, they may use the variant which provides for three hole cards. But the rule on using only two personal cards will be strictly followed.
